Skills Development Programme

The goal of the programme is to create a comfortable space for our learners to be confident, capable and creative through Saturday extra classes, extra mural activities and excursions to encompass every child with the necessary tools to develop social and emotional capabilities to create positive relationships with other leaners, their parents and their teachers. This program includes the chess club and creative classes, sports, awards ceremonies that are held twice a year, life skills workshop for the tutors and excursions held quarterly.

Clubs (Chess, Creativity or Collaboration)

Melela Chess Club is one our extra mural activities, where we train our selected leaners who are interested in Chess, the brilliant game of the mind, we motivate our leaners to stay active, we believe that the beauty of chess is it can be whatever you want it to be and its chooses nobody, Our activities help children to be healthy and have active minds.

We also offer Creative Classes where most of our struggling learners are selected to be part of our reading class to boost their confidence and increase their vocab by giving them individual attention by teaching them in different tactics.

Children awards and tutor acknowledgement

The main goal of this initiative is to motivate or leaners to adopt the culture of excellence and to also encourage them to participate in the extra mural activities offered by M4C and not to miss exams. We host the Awards Ceremony twice a year. On this event we cater for leaners that excelled on their academics and on who participated on the extra mural activities, and we also acknowledge our assistance tutors for a job well done.

Life skills workshop and social work

Our workshops guide children to acquire social skills and emotional Intelligence; especially the leaners that we know are facing hardships at home thus results in personality issues and thus is reflected on their behaviours and academic performance. We provide our learners with a safe space to express themselves fearlessly

Partnerships for excursions and events

We create opportunities for children to grow their talents as most of our learners come from struggling families, some of them have never been tourist places in Cape Town, so we take them for excursions for them explore and see that there is more to life than their current struggles, thus motivates and grows their capacity, because at Melela we believe that within every child there is greatness, waiting to be nurtured.
